As I sit and wait for my son to get out from school or am at a traffic light commuting from one place to another, I usually see a yellow butterfly. I love butterflies!

The butterfly has helped me analyze my life and how people live their lives. If we were to compare our lives to that of a butterfly, we will find similarities that will help you see things in a totally different light.

The butterfly is first a cocoon that waits patiently for its time to open and become a beautiful insect with maginificent colors and poise. How do we compare to a butterfly?

We are graced with multiple talents and abilities; we can choose what we do, how we think. When you are faced with an opportunity or a challenge - are you a cocoon or a butterfly? Do you stay in a shell because you fear the challenge that is facing you or, do you take that challenge head on and open up to new opportunities?

If you choose to stay closed to new opportunities and challenges (like a cocoon), you will have missed out on many wonderful experiences in your life. Obstacles are simply opportunities knocking at your door to help you expand to new horizons and adventures and if you choose to isolate yourself from these obstacles and challenges, you will have missed living one beautiful life.  This is called LIVING!

Today for the first time, I saw on YouTube Susan Boyle’s audition as she appeared on Britain’s Got Talent show on April 11, 2009. I was crying from the moment she began to sing. What a tender, clear, beautiful voice! Actually, quite angelical.

As a Coach who’s passion is inspiring people to live out their dreams, these few moments helped me to re-affirm my belief that dreams can be achieved by us all.  I created the DREAMS Method™  several years ago and wrote an e-book about this powerful acronym to help clients realize their dreams and Susan Boyle has used each of these components to show the world her talent and beauty as a human being.

DREAMS:        

Determination, Resistance, Endurance, , Accountability, Motivation, Success™

1) DETERMINATION - Susan Boyle was determined no matter what to go out there and show the world her talent and passion for singing.

2) RESISTANCE: Susan Boyle met the resistance of how others saw her and turned it around by having a wonderful personality and attitude. She was certain of herself and when Simon asked her why she had not shown her talent before, she pretty much exclaimed that she had not been giving an opportunity.

3) ENDURANCE: Susan Boyle endured all humiliation shown by the panel and the audience who were shown laughing at the mere fact that she had even been there.

4) ACCOUNTABILITY: Yes, believe it or not, she held others Accountable - for not seeing her as a talented human being and giving her an opportunity to exhibit such talent.

5) MOTIVATION - Susan Boyle was so motivated by her love for singing  and exhibited this motivation and love when she stood in front of millions of people, not caring how she would be ridiculed or looked at. Now that’s Motivation!

6) SUCCESS - Susan Boyle has had more viewers visit YouTube than anyone else in a mere 10 days since the show posted. She reached Success!

Susan inspired me tremendously. I also realized how sad it is and how cruel the world can be when someone slightly different comes along. Why does this happen? Are we so perfect that others are seen as less than significant? I too am guilty at times of judging others by their appearance or demeanor and for these few times, I am very sorry for acting in such a manner or feeling a certain way because in the end, I have missed out on meeting some very wonderful human beings that would have made a very positive impact in my life. Although these times were rare, one is too many!
